For the second year in a row the Horizon School Division has seen an uptake in their enrollment.

Last year 6,399 students were enrolled in the HSD.

Director of Education Kevin Garinger is happy to have more students attending their schools.

"We've gone up nearly 40 students this year, we'll be sitting at 6,438 children in our system. We're excited about that opportunity that our parents have provided us to be able to educate our kids. That enrollment growth is important to us and our staff as we continue to do that important work."

Garinger says they are even more excited to see the growth in the smaller communities.

"In some of our smaller schools such as Annaheim we saw a population growth there of about five students so again that rural trend that we see doesn't seem to be hitting Horizon and it's great to see us back over 6,400 kids. That type of growth is important to us."

Even the Nokomis School which was on the verge of closure a couple years back has a new lease on life.

"In the Town of Nokomis we've seen an increase in student numbers as well," Garinger added. "That's fantastic, they're a wonderful kindergarten to grade 8 school that we have just spent $1 million on that upgrade there."

A grand opening celebration for their renovations will be celebrated in late November with Education Minister Don Morgan on hand for.
