One dollar for every tax return processed.

That's the new mandate for HSA Chartered Professional Accountants in Humboldt, as they continually seek to give back to the area in which they serve.

On Wednesday, General Manager Dean Hergott presented the Humboldt District Hospital Foundation with a cheque for $2,652.

This is the third year that HSA has made the donation to the foundation.

Hergott says that given the wide range of clients they serve, an organization like the hospital foundation was a good fit.

"A lot of our clients come from outside the City of Humboldt," he explained. "We chose the hospital foundation as one of the facilities, maybe the major facility in town, that would serve a wide area."

Executive Director of the HDHF, Lorrie Bunko says that they are grateful to know that they can count on businesses like HSA for their continued support.

"It's very re-assuring to know that we have businesses thinking of the hospital foundation that why and benefiting their clients too," noted Bunko. "It's catching on, because there is other businesses that are following suit now too."

"What a way to do it, because they're benefiting important organizations, as well as letting their customers know this is what they're doing, and their customers are happy with that."

The plan has benefited both sides as well.

For the foundation, of course, the donation provides them with needed funds that go towards equipment purchases, while for HSA, it allows them to give back to the community, and see a rise in their clientele.

"This year, I would say, was the first year that I actually had clients at the desk mention it," said Hergott, on the new campaign. "I assume that now it is going to become more engrained in the marketing plan, and I do believe that people see value in that."

The math has showed for both sides as well.

In 2014, the donation to the foundation was $2,454. Last year, it bumped up to $2,533, before the rise of over 100 dollars for 2016, bringing the three year total to $7,639.
