Central Saskatchewan has seen a fairly dry summer and now with a heat wave on the horizon, it could be a while before we see relief.

Environment Canada Meteorologist, John Paul Cragg, talks about the chance of precipitation.

"It seems like below-average precipitation has been going on for a long period of time, and not just the fact the July was dry, and looking into August, especially with this next week with this really hot dry weather, there is not much in terms of precipitation expected, not even much of a risk. So if anybody is waiting for a rainfall they will have to wait until next week and even then really through the next almost 14 days it's looking pretty dry out there."

With a heat wave on the way, it is important to ensure you take proper safety in the sun and during the hot temperatures.

"Multiple days of heat and the temperatures overnight don't cool off enough that heat builds up and the health risks build up. Because we are looking at a stretch of three days individuals with any health risks could be at high risk of effects from this heat. It's also really important that if you're outside you take frequent breaks, drink plenty of water, and don't leave any people or pets in a closed vehicle for any length of time."

The highest chance for heat in Humboldt is on Thursday through to Saturday and cooling things off on Sunday.
