Premier Scott Moe's promise of $30 million to hire 400 educational assistants - restoring and adding to the $22 million cut from last year's provincial budget - means nearly $315,000 in extra funding for Horizon School Division, director of education Kevin Garinger said.

Last year's cut cost the division $3.5 million which was saved through attrition of some teaching positions, he said.

"We can do more with more but we've been required to do more with less, and the staff and the board and everyone in Horizon School Divison has taken that on and continues to ensure that our kids are getting a very good education."

The new cash will ensure that current supports are funded and that the division will be able to address any hot spots that arise through the year, he said.
