Owen Hopfner is one of 11 candidates hoping for a council seat at this month's civic election.

Hopfner is one of 11 residents running for council.

He describes the tough issues he would like to tackle if elected.

"The main issue, I guess would be the sewer and water infrastructure, and next to that would be the roads. We got some really bad systems in here, that we've got to look at, and that are priority and they've been working on them. The challenge in that is, you also got to be dealing with future growth in the city. So we want to develop some of that stuff for future growath as well."

Hopfner talks about what he hopes will happen if he becomes a councillor.

"We need to work with, and attract more businesses to Humboldt, I'm really big on that kind of thing. I feel the businesses here help the community by drawing people to come here, but the area is growing, it's getting bigger."

Hopfner explains his background.

"I farmed at Lake Lenore for 20 years, in the 70's and 80's. I was very involved in the community. I took a leadership role in numerous projects. Community Hall, rec centre, and I was involved on boards, school boards, chair and member of the school board for 14 years."

The Humboldt Civic election takes place on October 26th.
