It was a landmark year for events in the City of Humboldt.

Highlighted by the Saskatchewan Hockey Hall of Fame induction ceremony in July, Events Manager Mike Ulriksen says that usage at the Uniplex was at a high throughout the entire year.

"We got to build on some of the programs and events we have been working on in the past couple years," he stated. "We just got utilization out of our facility probably more so this year than in the past. Between the arena, curling rink, just the facility in general, we definitely saw people using it to its max."

Many organizations in the area have continuously made the Uniplex their home for marquee events and that also continued over the past year.

Ulriksen noted the Chamber of Commerce's Fall Business Trade Show, the On Stage Dance Festival, RV and Boat Show, as well as the Humboldt District Hospital Foundation's Spring Health Home and Leisure Show as beneficiaries of the big space.

"Seeing those pick up some steam and benefit those groups that are putting those on, we get to sit back and watch those events take place in our facility and bring people to the Uniplex."

Looking to the future, Ulriksen hinted at an event that may be looked at for May but would not divulge details quite yet.

Turning the Summer Sizzler over to the public for a survey turned out to see a positive response and helped bring new additions to the 2015 version. Going forward, Ulriksen mentioned that they are once again looking to improve in a big way.

"We have our Summer Sizzler, we've got some big things coming with that this year. We're excited to continue to build on that," he said.

While the new year isn't expected to be quite as prosperous for major events, Ulriksen added that they're always looking to keep traffic moving at the Uniplex with various attractions.

"Little things here and there, and we're always open to whatever opportunity comes next."
