The provincial highways department says they are working for a long term solution to flooding over Highway 20 north of Humboldt.

Last week when the heavy winds moved into the region white caps could be seen while dragging drift wood and other debris onto the road.

The Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure says "signs and electronic message boards in both directions of travel have been placed to warn drivers."

Highways staff have moved debris as necessary and the Highway Hotline road information system has been updated with this information to alert the public.

This week of the Ministry of Highways will place earth-filled barriers on north side for about one kilometre to prevent water and debris from crossing the road. This may narrow traffic lanes in this area. Drivers are reminded to be cautious and alert in the area.

The Ministry will continue to monitor until a more permanent solution can be found.
