An influx of funds from both the Government of Canada and the Provincial government of Saskatchewan will be put towards 259 km of highway in the province.

The announcement of the funding came back on March 11th and will see 40.2 million dollars contributed by the Government of Canada, while 41.5 is supplied by the Provincial Government.

“With investments like these, our government is creating safer, and more fluid travel for people who travel on Saskatchewan’s highway network. This work will help local businesses compete, promote a higher quality of life for residents and support the long-term economic prosperity of this province," said Bernadette Jordan, Minister of Rural Economic Development.

One of the highways having funds allocated toward it is a stretch of Highway 16 east of Lanigan.

"Work scheduled for this area is set to begin not this upcoming construction season, but the 2020 construction season. It's about 15km of resurfacing or repaving just east of Lanigan," said Steve Shaheen, Senior Communications Consultant with the Ministry of Highways.

Other work involved in the 259 kilometres of highway that will be improved includes highways 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, 10, 11, 14, 33 and 39.
