The Assumption Church in Marysburg was filled with the sounds of the season on Sunday.

"You should give it a try because it will really lift you up for the Christmas season."

Right in the middle of a picturesque winter white backdrop, the church in Marysburg attracted many visitors this weekend and looked to be right out of a Currier and Ives painting.

The church was celebrating its 20th year, and Music Director, Sharon Carter, says she is expecting a packed house, with potentially 400 patrons. Carter encourages the public to attend the event if they haven't before, because of the uplifting effect one experiences watching the concert.

Performances from an adult choir, a children's choir, and a handbell choir took place, with a special guest cello player from the Saskatoon Symphony, and all the Christmas music to be accompanied by Sharon Gerspacher.

Much planning and preparation go into this calibre of a concert, says Carter. Music was selected in June, with "intense" practices starting after Thanksgiving, leading up to the performance on the first weekend of December. Carter says the dedicated members of the choirs come from many surrounding areas to practice and rehearse and share in their mutual love of music.

"It really is heartwarming. We, (all the singers and myself, and the other musicians who participate), share this desire do this type of music at Christmas time."

A fundraising supper benefitting the Marysburg Centre of the Arts Association is set to follow the performance and will help to keep the church updated.
