A new bariatric bed is among the items the Humboldt District Hospital Foundation has been able to add thanks to their fundraisers.

With spring nearing, the Humboldt District Hospital Foundation is gearing up for a busy time, as they begin their annual fundraisers.

It starts April 4-7 when they partner with 107.5 Bolt FM to bring the Equip to Care Radiothon.

Executive Director of the foundation, Lorrie Bunko says it is always a good opportunity to hear stories about how the hospital has benefited people.

"We have patients, families, staff and volunteers that come to the hospital and are interviewed. They talk about their experiences as a patient, what staff go through," she stated. "We're going to be collecting donations and we hope that people come out and give some donations."

Following the radiothon is the Spring Health, Home and Leisure show, which is held in the Curling Rink at the Humboldt Uniplex.

"We have some spots available yet," Bunko noted. "We welcome all local area businesses to participate, and beyond. We have some from Alberta coming in. We really look forward to this."

This is the third year that the foundation has hosted the trade show, and with the current economic state, Bunko suggests that now is the time for people to be supporting businesses in their communities.

"It has been very successful. Supporting local is even more important now, and we hope to see the local businesses and services market their products."

Of course, all funds raised by the foundation go directly back to the community to serve the Humboldt area with their medical needs.

The fundraising never stops for the HDHF due to the continuously changing needs as well as technological advances.

Most recently they were able to add a handicap wheelchair access button for those accessing child care, home care and mental health departments.

"It was so difficult for people in wheelchairs, who use canes, or even have strollers to get through to that area, so we are very happy to have put that in," said Bunko.

She added that if you are interested in donating, or even have a story to tell for the radiothon, you can call the foundation at 306-682-4450, or visit their website.
