The latest production from Humboldt Collegiate Institute will help take your mind off the bone-chilling weather and bring you back to the ocean.

Little Mermaid Junior is set to take over the HCI stage for multiple showings, culminating in three public performances on Friday and Saturday.

Drama Teacher Glenda Lees says that it will be an enjoyable performance to take in.

"It is absolutely fantastic for everybody from little children to adults," she explained. "Many of us saw this as a movie and absolutely loved it, loved the music, and this contains all those good songs, plus a couple extra ones which are good also."

"I think that you will see all the same characters that you grew to love watching the movie, and I believe the HCI students are doing an excellent job portraying those characters."

Lees says that in deciding on something other than a Christmas theme for this time of year had multiple thoughts for the production of Little Mermaid.

"We have enough winter things that it is nice to think about summer and beaches and under the sea, and that will be fun," she noted. "One of the main reasons we are doing it at this time of the year is because we did our last one in June, and it was way too crazy doing something like that at the end of the year."

Lees added that it takes a lot of students and parents to bring together each production they do, and this one is no different.

"This is a production that many people in the school helped with. We have approximately 30 students that are in the cast and crew," she said. "As the production comes closer, we have people doing publicity, ushering, sets, costuming, and all kinds of other things. It ends up being atleast 50 students doing this, plus parents and others helping."

The cast will perform for student audiences leading up to the public performances. There is one show Friday at 7:00pm, with two shows on Saturday at 2:00pm and 7:00pm.

Tickets are available at Shopper's Drug Mart.
