The HCI Drama program is once again performing for the public.

The Ransom of Miss Elverna Dower was the performance done by the Humboldt Collegiate Institute Drama program. It tells the story of a teacher that no one really wants at the school to begin with. The most interesting part of the play is that the main character does not make an appearance- she is only talked about throughout the play.

When asked about how the preparation was different from any of the other years, Jamie White, director of the drama program explained. "I would say the biggest challenge for us this year would be our cast altogether, at the same time." Glenda Lees, a performance arts teacher with HCI, noted some challenges of this year's preparation. "Another huge challenge for us was that the drama class is scheduled for next semester, so we did not have that back-up to go over lines and get prepared a little extra every day."

The drama production held their practices after school and is a great opportunity for any student to get involved and gain a very strong sense of community. It also teaches them the important aspects of the theatre, from acting techniques to how to run technical and prop equipment. The productions this year took place on Thursday, November 22nd, and Friday, November 23rd. The drama cast this year was a very determined one, with all of them coming together and working hard to make sure a quality performance is delivered. It is noted that HCI did not host a drama production last year.

Darren Sommer, a grade 9 student at HCI, summed up best why kids just love going to drama practice. "All the friends we've made, and all the fellowship we share here is really important," said Sommer. "I feel like it's something we will all carry with us for a long time."
