Harvest is nearing completion for many Saskatchewan producers.

Provincially, 75% of the crop is combined, which is very advanced for this time of year with the average being at 58%. Last week 65% of the provincial crop was in the bin.

The southwest region of the province has the most advanced harvest, with 89% combined. Around Humboldt, the harvest is 72% complete. The west-central region is 74% complete, the northeast region is at 53% combined, the northwest region is at 46%, and the southeast region is at 86%. Many farmers have already wrapped up harvest operations, however, some producers will need to the crops to dry down for harvest to resume.

Topsoil moisture has improved slightly across Saskatchewan, due to the moisture we received earlier in the week.

Crop quality across the province has been rated at good to excellent, with minimal disease issues. Strong winds, frost, and little moisture have been the main reason for crop damage. Combine and grass fires continue due to the dry conditions.

The total number of farm machinery contacting power lines in September has been brought up to 16, due to six incidents being reported in the past week. SaskPower would like to remind people to be careful when using equipment around power lines. Producers are recommended to seek medical attention immediately if contact is made with power lines, even if there are no apparent injuries.
