The warm, dry weather seen across Saskatchewan has brought out different effects for farmers.

For Randy Buhs and his wife Glenda, who farm out of LeRoy, they couldn't have asked for better conditions.

"It's been pretty good. We did barley two weeks ago already. I got a quarter of wheat done and have one more to do. Then I have to wait a week or so before starting canola," noted Buhs on how harvest is progressing. "I'm probably two weeks away from finishing. Quality is good with lots of bushels this year."

He added that they usually plant barley, wheat and canola, with the odd mix of oats thrown in every once in a while.

Buhs' dad began farming on the land they occupy today, and he has continued to take the crop off each year for three and a half decades.

"We own 1,850 acres. I grew up on this farm and started farming about 35 years ago," he said. "About 30 years ago we moved into LeRoy so I just farm from there out."

Buhs worked at the Credit Union in LeRoy for 23 years before electing to go into farming on a full-time basis.

The Buhs family was the winner of Bolt FM's Meal in the Field for September 8. Each week, one farm in the area receives a meal brought to their field. With only two more meals to give away, you'll want to sign up your farm!
