The current MLA for the Humboldt and Watrous areas constituency, Donna Harpauer, will have some competition for her position in 2019.

Before the next provincial election on October 26, 2020, each party must have an election within their party to elect who is going to represent each constituency.

On December 10th, the Saskatchewan Party held their annual general meeting. During the meeting, Harpauer declared she would run for MLA once again. Wes Berschiminsky also stated he would be running for the MLA in the same constituency.

Both candidates have to present an application with information that must be disclosed to the Saskatchewan Party. Once both applications are approved, a nomination meeting will be held on February 20th, 2019 with Saskatchewan party capital members in the Humboldt/Watrous constituency.

"There are times when a sitting MLA is challenged, I don't ever know if I've heard of a cabinet minister to be challenged, but it is possible," said Donna Harpauer.

If Harpauer were to lose the election in 2020, she would not only lose her position as the MLA but also the Finance Minister.
