At approximately 6:00 pm on Saturday, April 13th, the Humboldt Fire Department and Humboldt EMS responded to a grass fire approximately one kilometre north of Carmel.

The fire was fanned by 15-20 kilometre per hour southerly winds just inside a bison enclosure on a farm. The were no animals present and the fire did not threaten any dwellings or outbuilings. The Kubota brush tractor was deployed to contain the fire from entering a stand of poplars to the south.

Humboldt EMS was on standby monitoring the situation.

While there was no indication that the fire was the result of a controlled burn, the Humboldt Fire Department reminds the public that controlled burns must be called in to 1-866-404-4911.
