Mohawk spirit is alive and well in a Grade 12 student, fresh off a gold medal win.

"We've had our ups and downs, but we came out strong and it's like a family with this team".

Tanner Scott, a grade 12 student at Humboldt Collegiate Institute, just won the championship at 4A Boys Volleyball along with his team, hosted by HCI Friday and Saturday. He has been active in many sports throughout his time in secondary school, including track, basketball, and volleyball.

He says he has many aspirations beyond his high school career. Scott says his future plans include taking a year off and working before starting to study social work at university.

Scott believes he will stay true to his roots and remain in the province of Saskatchewan for his post-secondary studies.

"I think I'm going to stay in Saskatchewan. I'm originally from La Ronge, so I'm going to keep in Saskatchewan because I want to help the Saskatchewan people."

Family is of high importance to Scott and has fuelled his desire to help others.  He reveals tattoos running the length of his forearms which he says is a tribute to his grandmother.

"I'm close to family. I want to make sure kids have the right to be free and enjoy life."

His time being an HCI Mohawk has been a rewarding experience and all the hard work Scott and his fellow teammates have put in this season has paid off.

"We've been going strong. We haven't dropped a set this season. When you're a Mohawk, it's great. There's nothing bad to say about the Mohawk spirit. Everyone is always there for you."
