When you call 911 for a fire, make sure you give responders a detailed location.

That’s the advice from Humboldt Fire Chief Mike Kwasnica after his crews struggled to find a truck fire Sunday morning on a farmyard north of St. Gregor.

“Yesterday it was pretty heavy fog so we couldn’t see any smoke or anything, so it was a little bit trickier to find. Because we weren’t told it was actually at a land location - we were just given directions," he said.

“So sometimes giving the 911 operator really detailed directions on how we can find you is probably beneficial.”

Humboldt Fire Department was called around 10:45 a.m. after Annaheim's crew had problems with their trucks.

When they arrived, the truck had already burned itself out, Kwasnica said.

The owner believes the fire was caused by an electrical short, he said.

No one was hurt.
