Over the last 6 years, more than 325 people have died as a result of drunk driving and with Cannabis legal in Canada, Safe Communities Humboldt is coming together with Parachute to teach young drivers the importance of driving sober.

This week has been known as National Teen Driver Safety Week in Humboldt for students that are in Grades 9 and 10.

Teens about to receive their license or who have just received their license at HCI will be subject to presentations by the Humboldt District Ambulance Service, Humboldt RCMP, and Humboldt Fire Department. Teen driver safety week will cover Distracted driving, speeding, and driving under the influence.

"With them being new drivers, being able to develop safe habits on the road is important and bringing awareness to all of those factors that can impact their ability to be safe on the highway is really important," said Shari Hinz, Executive Director with Safe communities Humboldt.

The presentations are taking place on the 23rd and 24th of this month.
