A former Humboldt resident that has now become an established author is stopping in Humboldt tomorrow.

Janice Howden is bringing her book "Rescued" to Humboldt, and is doing a book signing at the Kinettes Craft sale and Marketplatz.

She talks about what the book is about.

"Now the interesting part of this story is it's based on my dog, who was a rescued Tibetan Terrier at the SPCA when we found him. So this is the story that he told me about how he ended up there."

The former Humboldt resident is now an author based out of Saskatoon.

She explains her reasoning behind her two published books.

"It's actually my late husband, Lloyd Howden was an animal protection officer with the SPCA between the years 2000-2012, and my first book, Badge #124 was about his work. So in 2005, we adopted a dog from the SPCA, and I began to think about all the other recue dogs that desperately needed a forever home. That's when I knew I wanted to write a story to appeal directly to young readers."

Howden describes her reason for writing her books.

"The reason that I wrote this book is that I wanted educators, youth leaders and parents to recognize the need to talk to children, about compassion and respect to animals. the same way we talk to them about alcohol and smoking. And I feel that 'Rescued' is an important tool to accomplish this."

"Rescued" and "Badge #124" are for sale at Indigo and McNally-Robinson book stores.
