Saskatoon Health Region's public flu shot clinic at St. Augustine Parish Centre has wrapped up, but rural public health nurse supervisor Jodie Johnson still urges people to get the vaccine.

Influenza is a common infection that most affects seniors and small children, "so we really encourage people with young families to come in and get their flu shot as well as adults and seniors, just to prevent the spread of infection."

People can get the flu shot at local pharmacies and a second public clinic focusing on young families and small children is scheduled for November 25.

This year's vaccine is predicted to be a good match for the flu strains in play this year, Johnson said.

"Even if you're a healthy individual, it'll protect you but it will also help to protect others."

More than 1,000 people had got the shot at the clinic as of 4 p.m. Tuesday.
