The community of Arborfield, about 200 kilometres north east of Humboldt is under a mandatory evacuation order.

The announcement came at 3:45 Tuesday afternoon from the Government of Saskatchewan.

The town and Rural Municipality declared a state of emeregency earlier on Tuesday.

Flood waters due to the recent rain are threatening the community. A breach of a water barrier has given way, it's located about 13 kilometres south of the community.

All residents are ordered to self evacuate if they are able to, if they can't do so they are asked to call the town office. Evacuees are urged to register at their reception centre in Melfort at the Blue Bird Hotel. Assistance is also being provided through Emergency Social Services.

About 400 people live there.
