Blue REACT bins will be wheeled out for their first pick-up on Thursday and Friday in the City of Humboldt.

Last week, black bins saw their first pick-up under the city's new garbage and recycling program.

Around 39 bins were not picked up due to placement, but as mentioned in council's regular meeting on Monday the program is a little bit of a learning curve for residents.

Some key points to remember when taking out bins is to leave 4 feet of clearance on both sides away from cars, and other bins. Ensure that the arrows on the top of the bin are pointed toward the street.

Blue bins which are for recycled goods have a few more rules than the garbage bins.

Recyclables are to be placed loose in the cart and do not need to be bagged like garbage. All caps and lids must be removed with all containers rinsed.

Cardboard boxes should be flattened and cart lid must be closed.

Any items outside of the bin will not be picked-up.

Below is a list of recyclable items.

Paper materials: flattened cardboard, newspaper, office paper material, cardboard egg cartons, milk and juice cartons, magazines, catalogs, and brochures, and bagged shredded paper.

Plastics: Pop bottles, laundry detergent jugs, shampoo bottles, food containers such as yogurt and margarine.

Tin and Aluminum: Tin cans, aluminum trays, plate, foil, aluminum beverage cans.

Absolutely no glass should be in the bins.

After this week's recycling pick-up it will be back to garbage the following week. Recycle and garbage will alternate on a bi-weekly basis.
