Fire crews gathered in Lanigan Saturday, but this time for a little bit of fun.

The Firefighter's rodeo was held in Lanigan, testing the skills of several fire and emergency response teams in the area.

Kyle Renwick is the Safety Supervisor and coach of the Lanigan Potash Corp team.

He talks about one of the more popular events.

"A crowd favourite is the Water Soccer. They use their stream of water and try to get, we call it "the pig", and it runs on a wire line and they try to get it into the other teams end."

Renwick describes what makes the Firefighter's Rodeo a success.

"It's a good event, all of our mine teams as well of the City of Humboldt, this year the town of Lanigan couldn't have a team in it. It's a chance for our firefighters to practice skills that they might need in the event of a real emergency. Also just getting together and there's a lot of familiar faces year after year and the guys get to know each other, and it's a lot of fun competing."

Renwick explains how the teams compete against one another.

"It's all team events, and what happens is that we send out judging packages to all the teams, and so they over the years too, they learn all the criteria that's used. There's lots of little rules, but we make sure everybody knows, and it's all clear."

The rodeo has been going on since 1981.
