Sunday marks the beginning of Fire Prevention Week across Saskatchewan.

Humboldt Fire Chief Mike Kwasnica talks about this years theme.

"This year's theme 'Don't wait, check the date' focuses on the importance of replacing smoke alarms every 10 years."

Kwasnica urges the importance of changing smoke alarms.

"Smoke alarms save lives, but only when they work. Be sure to change yours every 10 years."

Humboldt Fire Department is also holding an open house on Tuesday.

Kwasnica explains a little more.

"To make Fire Prevention week, Fire department staff and volunteers are hosting an open house at the fire hall on Tuesday, Ocotber 11th, from 5:30 and 8 p.m."

Live demonstrations, exhibits, and giveaways highlight the open house.
