The Humboldt Fire Department opened its doors to the public on Tuesday night for an open house.

As part of Fire Prevention Week, firefighters were in attendance to show off what they do on a daily basis, as well as to let residents check out the trucks and equipment.

Fire trucks were pulled out during the Humboldt Fire Department's open house.

Fire Chief Mike Kwasnica says that they used the 'Every Second Counts, Plan Two Ways Out' theme during the open house.

"We have some different events for the kids to draw their house and show the two ways they would get out in event of a fire."

Kwasnica says that they like to hold the event each year to engage with the public.

"It's important for families and kids to come down to their local departments, meet the firefighters, see that they are real people, and see what's behind the big shiny trucks and the bright lights."

The department hosted an open house in addition to the activities, where proceeds stay within the detachment to assist with future equipment purchases.

Kwasnica noted that while the open house is their signature event, they will be out in the community throughout the week.

"We will be doing some fire drills this week, so we might show up at a couple of the schools and do a surprise fire drill."
