The final blood clinic in Humboldt for 2018 has wrapped up.

On December 17th from 2 to 7 PM, at the Jubilee Hall in Humboldt, about 160 donors in the area donated blood to those in need.

Mike Fisher, Territory manager with the Canadian Blood Services for Saskatoon and Humboldt areas said it takes about one hour for a donor to give blood. The process starts with the donor filling out a questionnaire to make sure it's safe for both themselves and the recipients. If everything checks out the donor sits in a chair for 5 to 20 minutes to donate 492 millilitres of blood. Afterwards, the blood services experts will look over the donor to make sure their strength is up to par. Some examples of patents in the hospital that would need blood are surgery, cancer treatments, or accidents.

"There are people out there that need blood, one in two people know someone or have needed blood themselves. It can happen at any time, so it's important to make sure the hospitals have all the blood they need to meet demand," Fisher stated.

The first blood clinic in Humboldt for 2019 is on March 18th at the Jubilee Hall.
