The Humboldt Soup Kitchen received a donation of $1,350 from the Humboldt & District Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday.

The money was raised through the silver collection at the Festival of Lights, which took place over the holiday season. All the money will go towards food purchases, renting out the Community Gathering Place, and other equipment to keep the program running.

"This community of Humboldt is absolutely amazing for their generosity as we receive many different types of donations from many different organizations," said Linda Jurgens, chair of the soup kitchen board.

Every Tuesday at 5 PM, the soup kitchen sets up shop to provide for those who are in need of food, social interaction or just a place to meet up and play games.

"We are more like a family here, it's not just people that are in dire straights, it's also people that need a place to socialize, single people, seniors on a fixed income, they can come out and have fun."
