The Liberal Government has delivered its first Federal Budget.

The budget calls for a deficit of almost $30 billion in the fiscal year starting April 1st.

Tuesday's Federal Budget included $30 million over six years for Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada to support advanced research in agricultural genomics.

There was also $41.5 million on a cash basis starting in 2016-17 for the rehabilitation and modernization of select Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and Canadian Food Inspection Agency research stations and labs.

The budget also proposed future funding for clean technology.

Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall says at first glance, the new federal budget is disappointing.

Wall says he was hoping to see some special recognition for Alberta, Saskatchewan and Newfoundland and Labrador, which have been hit hard by the downturn in oil prices.

But the premier says that doesn't appear to be among the spending promises in the 269-page document.

The government is also promising $6.6 million for infrastructure projects over two years.

A maximum of 70 weeks will be available for EI collectors in regions deemed to be hit hard by job losses which is a 20 weeks increase. People in other regions will be able to collect EI for an additional five weeks on top of the regular 45 weeks.

The changes are effective in July but are retroactive to January
2015.
