Funded by the Ministry of Education and Economy Humboldt and District Community Services held their mandatory annual general meeting last night.

Highlighting many points of 2016 was Executive Director Juanine Korte, she pointed to the first ever fashion show they held being at the top of her list.

"It really was a great event, it was a great night. We put a little twist on it in that we included some of our clients so it was what we would call an inclusive fashion show. From that we were able to raise almost $5,000 and it really is something that creates a little bit of awareness in our community at the same time and helps us raise funds through out the year."

A registered savings plan seminar, summer bar-b-cue program, celebrating Disability Employment Awareness Month, receiving their funding from the Good Neighbour Store as well as moving to Chamney Platz on main Street from their 7th Street location also made Korte's lengthy highlight list.

They heard from Joanne Speers who covers services for the Duck Lake and Rosthern region. Korte says that partnership began in 2003 based on the success they were having with their supported employment program.

"We've been involved in that area for almost 13 years now, she has a good relationship with the agencies in that area in order to support the communities and the people that really need to access those services."

HDCS has 43 clients and eight new employers involved with them that joined the partnership in 2016.

She explained what it means for their employer engagement partners to be involved with them.

"You are not only being inclusive in what you're doing in your business but you are also representing your philosophy of supporting all citizens in the community."

During the AGM they welcomed two new board members, Dennis Bergermann and Maureen Loefferholz plus they thanked Heather Rintoul for her time served.

You can hear more from Korte below, she spoke with Bolt FM's Clark Stork following the meeting.
