Emergency First Responders are getting some important training this weekend.

The First responder training day was taking place at the Humboldt District health complex on Saturday.

There were around 24 people getting their certification on the day.

Sherri Jule, Emergency Services Manager in Humboldt, gave us more details.

"Today we are hosting a training day for the first responders of the surrounding communities of Humboldt," Jule said.

"Atr least once every 2 years, every listed first responder must commit to renewing their certification."

She went on to describe the importance of a first responder, and what help they offer in any given situation.

"For medical calls, in many communities, the ambulance station is not in their community" she stated.

"So, there are medical first responders throughout each community that can stabilize a patient until an ambulance gets there."

There was an advance care paramedic giving a lecture on medicinal marijuana.

As well, a Sask power representative gave a lecture on electrocution.

The next meeting is in March, and the sessions are open to all first responders looking to keep on on certifications.
