A local high school student from Humboldt Collegiate Institute is sharing a Canada 150 story thanks to his love for curling and banking giant RBC.

With 2017 being the 150th anniversary as a nation RBC decided to give $150 to each of their branches that is dispersed to a local person to share our story.

Adam Eichorst is the recipient for the Humboldt branch.

"I can't really say no to it," he laughed in the lobby of the Humboldt Curling Rink Tuesday afternoon. "I was really honoured to get the phone call and then the hard decision came to where to put the money to in the community."

Eichorst decided to give back to the youth programming at the HCC where they will purchase some new brooms.

"After some long nights spent I think I put it to a good cause here."

"The only thing we need to know is what they done," Branch Manager Jodi Smith explained of the program. "It was no brainer to choose Adam, he is a very active youth in our community, junior citizen of the year last year, we were very proud to choose him."

Eichorst will have some follow up work to do through the initiative but in the end he is happy to help out.

"I started to do some research, Canada has the most curlers in the world and most of those are youth and also RBC is trying to empower the youth so I thought there was no better place to put this than into a youth curling program."

Young people between the ages of 16 and 25 are eligible, Smith says they are still in the process of providing the funds through their Lanigan branch which she also manages.
