This week's Saskatchewan Agriculture crop report is indicating that 94 percent of the crop is now in the ground.

In the east central region 96 percent of seeding is complete. The southeastern and southwestern regions are essentially finished with 98 percent of the crop in the ground, 95 percent in the west-central, 88 percent in the northwest, and 84 percent in the northeast.

Some areas of the province received large amounts of rain while others had only trace amounts. Crops need more rain to germinate and replenish topsoil moisture in most areas.

There are concerns for crop and hay yields in southern areas without adequate rain fall.

Crop land topsoil moisture is rated as five percent surplus, 65 percent adequate, 26 percent short, and four percent very short.

Crops are behind their normal development at this stage with crop damage resulting from strong winds, lack of moisture, frost and insects.

There have been 132 reports this year of farm equipment contacting power poles and lines.

Producers are being reminded to be especially careful around power lines.
