Saskatchewan Agriculture's weekly crop report is showing a significant amount of seeding progress over the past week.

Warm and dry weather has allowed producers to get 60 percent of the crop into the ground aound the province.

In the east central region, 53 percent has been seeded. That's up from 19 percent last week.

Seeding is most advanced in the southeast with 80 percent seeded, 76 percent in the southwest, 59 percent in the west-central region, 43 percent in the northwest, and 25 percent in the northeast.

The five year average for this time of year is 65 percent seeded, last year 81 percent had already been seeded.

The Vonda area reported 18mm of rain while other areas received little to no moisture. Fields are still wet closer to the north while southern areas need rain for germination. Some fields are being tilled to help dry them up and be suitable for seeding.

Cropland topsoil moisture is rated as 11 percent surplus, 79 percent adequate, nine percent short and one percent very short.

Hard frost from last week caused some damage to alfalfa, winter cereal, and canola fields but the damage is expected to be minimal.

Farmers are being encouraged to use caution when they are in the field as SaskPower has reported 23 power line contacts involving farm equipment.

Producers are occupied by seeding, controlling weeds, and moving cattle.
