The Humboldt Broncos have received an award that has been in the world of hockey since 2015, The E.J. McGuire Award Of Excellence.

The award is given out annually by the NHL Central Scouting to a draft prospect who meets the criteria that best exemplifies the commitment to excellence through the strength of character, competitiveness, and athleticism.

President of the Humboldt Broncos, Kevin Garinger, accepted the award noting that he was doing so on "behalf of the great leaders within the Humboldt Broncos organization including our head coach and general manager, the face and heart and soul of our organization, Mr. Darcy Haugan. His assistant coach Mark Cross, trainer Dayna Brons, and all the staff that passed away, and all ten of the athletes who are no longer with us. The thirteen athletes who remain with us, four of whom are still in hospital, Layne Materchuk, Morgan Gobeil, Jacob Wassermann and Ryan Straschnitski, these people were true leaders on the ice and off the ice, and they will continue to lead our world and they will continue to help us as the Humboldt Broncos organization, as a community of Humboldt, as a province of Saskatchewan, and a countries of Canada and USA, and across this world. They will continue to help us remain Humboldt strong and they will continue to ensure that we can all help in the healing process as we are all Humboldt Broncos."

The previous award winner was Nico Hischier from the New Jersey Devils.
