Humboldt has a new perfect bowler.

HCI student Dylan Mandershied bowled a perfect game Saturday during a cashspiel at Kemway Lanes.

He felt calm at first, he said. Even at the ninth frame, screwing up wouldn't be such a big deal.

Then came the tenth frame, and the eleventh, and then one more strike for a perfect game.

“Just didn’t think about it and just went, and once it left the hand I was like, here we go.”

He heard the pins fly and turned around to see people cheering, he said.

“It's something you really can’t believe that you did. It’s like a dream that came true because I always wanted to do it but never could until then.”

He’s spent years practicing after school and taking advice from his coaches. Anyone can get a strike - it takes far more skill to hit corner pins and pick up spares, he said.

He has gone to nationals for bowling and wants to try his hand at other big tournaments, though he says, “having fun is the main thing.”

A plaque in recognition of his feat will be hung at the bowling alley.
