Excellent teachers received Excellence Awards at the beginning of the school year.

Five teachers from Horizon School Divison recieved an Excellence in Teaching Award this year. Carla Lone,  a K 1-2 teacher from Drake School is one of the proud teachers to be honored.

Carla has taught for 10 years in the Horizon school division and commented on her reaction to winning the award, "My greatest feeling receiving the award was that I was just really grateful. I am really grateful to be part of the school team that I have here at Drake School and just widely at Horizon school division. It's such a great team of teachers to be working with. When asked if she was surprised, Lone said, " I was shocked! It was a tremendous honor and really a nice surprise."

She was nominated by her administrator Donna Apple and was taken aback when reading the comments from her student and colleagues as apart of the nomination, "It was a real moment to pause and think about how far I've come in my journey as a teacher and to read some of those really positive comments."

Lone considers herself a responsive teacher, she adds, " I've got three grades in the combined classroom and all of the students I have, have a really wide variety of needs there learning at. I just teach each child individually and take them as far as I can with the time we have."

Carla Lone joins Matthew Tan of Watrous Elementary and we will be featuring a different recipient throughout the rest of the week.
