The Humboldt SPCA held an event at waterridge park for people and dogs to get through the Dog Days of Summer.

Dog days in the Park took place yesterday, coinciding with the same weekend as the SPCA's Province-wide adopt-a-thon that took place Friday and Saturday.

Wanda Price, a manager at the Humboldt SPCA, explains what people should think about when considering a dog for a pet.

"Especially for a dog, they should research the breeds, and don't pick a high-energy dog for a calm family. Just to make sure you know it's a life long commitment, so you got to be prepared for that, and the vet bills, and everything else."

The event was held on the same weekend as the SPCA's Province wide Adopt-A-Thon.

The Humboldt SPCA saw one cat adopted and deposits paid on 2 dogs.

Price describes the current dog situation at the SPCA.

"Right now it's a little crowded because we just had a dog deliver 8 puppies, and had 4 puppies brought in, but normally we're full all of the time."

Price talks about why it's a good thing to have dog days in the park.

"I think most people should bring their dogs out to socialize with other dogs and people. It's really good for the dogs, and a lot of fun for them."

Dog Days in the Park was described as a great socializing event for the dogs involved.

Prizes, ribbons and medals were awarded to dogs in several categories.
