Several young drivers of Humboldt had an eye-opening experience Saturday.

October 14th marked the kick-off of National Teen Driver Safety Week, and Discovery Ford of Humboldt hosted a fun and informative fundraising event to bring awareness to the issue of impaired driving among young adults. In conjunction with efforts from Safe Communities Humboldt and Area, Discovery Ford and SGI attracted people of every age to test out SGI's impaired driving simulator. By trying out the simulator, attendees of the event got to experience how dangerous driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol can be.

Funds were raised by a simple and effective concept by Discovery Ford. "It's called a Drive One Fundraiser, and we are pairing with Safe Communities Humboldt," explains Discovery Ford Loyalty Consultant, Ashley Sled. "For every person who comes in to test drive a Ford today, Ford Canada will donate $20 to the organization". The fundraiser was already a great success mid-way through the day. According to Sled, "So far we've had about 80 people come by. Safe Communities Humboldt do car seat clinics and a lot of youth programs like helmets/bicycle safety, and today we can help them raise up to $6,000."

National Teen Driver Safety week continues until October 21st. For more information, visit parachutecanada.org/ntdsw
