A number of communities in our area including Humboldt, Allan and Lanigan are getting set for events to celebrate our heritage today and this weekend.

Culture Days are taking place across Canada Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Humboldt Museum Supervisor Jean Price explains exactly what the event is about.

"Culture Days is a national festival of arts and culture so municipalities all across the country are celebrating the various cultures, the various arts within their communities so that's what we're part of this weekend."

They have two days jammed packed with entertainment including exhibits, both visual and on hand as well as concerts and story telling sessions. For a complete line up and more information visit their website.

Price admits this weekend is a highlight for them and the community.

"It's so much fun, it's great to see so many people come out and enjoy things they have maybe never done before. This year we're pretty excited about our two art projects, the sort of collaboration nature of them especially the one in the gallery because we have no exhibits on the main floor right now."

You can hear much more from Price below in her interview with Bolt FM's Clark Stork.

Two other local communities are taking part in Culture Days as well;

In Lanigan they are holding a "Pioneer Memories" event from 2-3:30pm at the Lanigan and District heritage Centre. Author Deana J Dirver will speak about farming roots as well you will be able to hear stories written by past and present residents.

Allan's day gets underway at 9 o'clock at the Parkland Hall with wheat grinding, bread making, grindstone tool sharpening, grain testing, both new and old fashioned procedures, butter churning and blacksmithing.

All events are open to the general public.
