Carlton Trail College in Humboldt has hired a new President.

Ralph Troschke will replace Dr. Ivan Yackel following this school year.

Troschke talks about why he sought the position at the smaller post secondary facility.

"I like working with staff groups that I can get a good personal intimate relationship with and so that was one of the attractions. I actually spent a little bit of time in Saskatchewan a few years ago in the Moose Jaw area, I actually like Saskatchewan, it's wonderful. Specific to Humboldt I am of German heritage so I thought it would be neat to connect with my roots."

Troschke has worked for eight different facilities over a 30 year career in education. He is currently a Dean at Olds College in Alberta.

Glenn Hepp, the Chair of the CTC Board says it's that experience that led them to the hiring of Troschke.

"He was President of a college in Prince George for a while, he's been at Lakeland College and now he's at Olds College. I mean he's got a very extensive background, he's been in a variety of positions. We felt that he could handle this position quite well with the experience he has."

Troschke is a married father of three, his oldest is currently attending Lakeland College in Lethbridge. He has a child that will enter grade 12 at Humboldt Collegiate Institute, his youngest will attend grade 10 at HCI.

"I'm a very open person, I am a very personable person, I work very well in one on one or small staff groups," Troschke added when asked what he will bring to CTC. "I look forward to giving that calm influence and calm direction to the institution."
