The Canadian Pacific holiday train made stops in the area on Sunday in Foam Lake, Wynyard, and Lanigan as it continues to make stops in communities in North America to raise hunger awareness.

With several hundred people turning out in Lanigan, the Food Bank in the town received a large amount of donations.

Lanigan's Food Bank Coordinator, Jeanette Warrian said they serve several communities.

"It's not just our community, we serve Guernsey, Viscount, Drake, Nokomis, Jansen, LeRoy, so it's a very big area so just a big thank you for all the support we've been given."

They will disperse at least 46 food hampers this holiday season, they typically serve 35 each month.

With the train stopping in the town, they received a large amount of donations throughout this week according to Warrian, "It was overwhelming, we just didn't expect that number of people to turn out and then all the food, it's still coming in cause some people took their parcels back home and are still bringing them in."

All Lanigan Food Bank donations can be dropped off at the Lanigan Advisor.
