The Humboldt Music Festival continues to see growth on an annual basis.

Part of that growth is attributed to community support, which they once again received on Friday morning.

Bolt FM and DiscoverHumboldt presented $1,500 to the festival.

Spokesperson Patti Durand says that the funds help them keep a full program.

"It is used for funding portions of the music festival that are maybe not as popular or as populated," she explained. "For example, for the band portion, it helps us to subsidize, to make sure we can continue to offer that program."

Durand says that with more people coming to the area, and more interest in school programming, the festival is seeing their numbers rise as well.

"What we're seeing is that the band programs in the school are picking up. There is vocal teachers, piano teachers," she said. "All of those disciplines have been building and as our community and district has grown, there has been more uptake."

She added that the festival is a chance to students to gain perspective from other voices.

"We feel it is our responsibility to continue to build an opportunity for them to get some feedback. There is a competitive level of it, but primarily it is an opportunity for kids to perform and get response and direction outside of their normal teaching environment."

"For myself, I think back and it really shaped my ability and practiced the art of getting up and performing in front of people."

This year was the 80th edition of the music festival, which runs in April and May.
