A project years in the making was finalized last year, and made fully operational for this year.

The grand opening of the Conexus Community Tower took place on Friday, October 20, at halftime of a football game between the HCI Mohawks and Churchill Chargers.

HCI Principal and Head Football Coach Cory Popoff helped coordinate the project, and noted that it truly was a community effort.

"Our program, from fundraising and Mohawks cards were able to get a significant amount of funds," he said. "From there, a lot of volunteer work and community service brought this project to a helm, and we are so proud of the tower here."

"It's a great example of a community at work, together."

The project began to come to life several years ago when Shaun Gardiner spearheaded the idea and helped secure early grant funding for the tower.

In the years since the project was drawn up, the Mohawks have seen plenty of support from businesses, as well as general people in the community.

Popoff said that it is hard to fully explain in words how thankful they are for all the support they continue to receive.

"It means so much to us and our program. I always have said that ever since I moved to Humboldt, I have realized the amount of support our school has, as well as our athletic program," he noted. "We are blessed, there is no other way to say it."

The project is estimated at $60,000, and sits on the west side of the track at Glenn Hall Park.
