It's bound to be a night of laughs and entertainment on April 27, as Humboldt celebrates hockey.

The first Humboldt Minor Hockey Sportsman's Dinner will take place on the floor of the Elgar Petersen Arena that night.

Aside from celebrating the sport, attendees will be treated to renowned comedian Kelly Taylor.

Born and raised in Prince Albert, Taylor says that hockey and comedy are right up his alley.

"You'll see me in my perfect element. I love performing in Canada the most, and if you take that down to performing in Saskatchewan, I enjoy it the most, and if you put some sports to it, most people relate to it."

Taylor says that he has been able to generate many punchlines based on the fact that seven of his best friends all wound up playing professional hockey except for him.

Although he started out going to open mic nights in University, Taylor says he got a later start to his career because he was having a lot of fun playing senior hockey in Beardy's.

Comedy always seemed like a perfect fit for Taylor, who says that it has been something he was always interested in.

"As soon as I turned 19, the first thing I did was go to a stand-up show and thought it was awesome. Being funny always seemed like a good thing to be," he explained. "My dad was really funny, my brother is really funny."

Taylor has performed across Canada, most of the United States, Asia, and has done three shows for the troops in Afghanistan.

Taylor's love for Saskatchewan has kept him home in Prince Albert, adding that no matter where he lives, he still would have to travel, so why not be where he wants to be.

"I don't know why people think you have to move. I am on the road all the time. I love Saskatchewan, and I have four kids, and I want to raise them here."

Prior to performing in Humboldt, Taylor has several dates lined up on the road, which includes a stop in St. Louis for a roast of former NHL goalie Darren Pang.

The event on April 27 is a partnership between Humboldt Minor Hockey and the Humboldt Broncos, where the organizations will split funds to help continue to grow the game in the city.

Tickets are currently on sale at the Broncos office as well as Johnny's Bistro. A table of eight runs for $500, while individual tickets are available as well for $70.
