An extreme cold warning continues for the Humboldt area.

Frigid air moved in prior to Christmas, and has continued to build up over the holidays, bringing some of the coldest weather of 2017 as the year comes to a close.

In fact, highs of -26.4 and -26.8 on Christmas Day and Boxing Day are the coldest it has been all year in the Humboldt area, excluding the wind chill.

Most of the province is under the cold warning, and while the current system is slowly moving out, more cold air sweeps in right behind, leaving little improvement.

Environment Canada notes that the deep freeze is expected to last into the early days of the new year, and will feature temperatures into the -40 mark with the wind chill.

Time spent outside should be limited, even while bundled up, and those who are travelling on roads should also be prepared in case of emergency.
