Local businesses are utilizing whatever resources they have to raise money to support the Humboldt Broncos organization following the tragic bus accident on April 6th.

For restaurants, simply serving their customers as usual but donating some if not all of the proceeds has been the go-to move...and it's been paying off in a big way.

The McDonald's location in Humboldt has spearheaded the franchise's nationwide initiative of donating $1 from McCafe sales this past Tuesday and Wednesday towards the Humboldt Broncos fund.

"We sold 625 coffees on Tuesday and 576 on Wednesday for a total donation of $1,201 towards the Humboldt Broncos' fund," stated Crystal Stadnyk, Assistant Manager at the Humboldt McDonalds.

"We heard some great support from the community and we're just happy to help out the families and their desperate needs."

The campaign ran at all McDonald's in Saskatchewan and some outside the province and more numbers are expected later in the week.

Meanwhile, the 'Humboldt Strong' doughnut at Tim Hortons' in Humboldt has been a massive hit as anticipated since being available for purchase since Monday.

"So far to date, we're over 2,000 doughnuts sold at this location and we're going strong. We've got a long ways to go," expressed Dan Grywachowski, who owns the Humboldt Tim Hortons' with his wife Morgan.

"Our staff is super excited, they love it! And we love selling stuff when the money stays right here in our home, everybody's been behind it and we can't thank the community enough."

Similar to the McCafe promotion, the doughnut campaign has been mandated for all Saskatchewan Tim Horton locations and has been made optional for others nationwide to support the Broncos' fund.

There is no timetable on when the 'Humboldt Strong' doughnut campaign will end, but Grywachowski hopes it will stick around for the next few weeks at least.
