Jennifer Koffing has found the recipe for a successful startup business. The entrepreneur walked away with the Mark Of Excellence Award for service tied with Muenster Powder Coating.

Koffing analyzed the regional marketplace of 30,000 and knew that her customers may have some challenges getting to a central location for pet grooming. So Koffing, a life long lover of animals, decided to bring the service to her customers.

Koffing went to St. Louis, Missouri to pick up a specialized trailer that has all the amenities of a pet grooming salon. Koffing explains, "The trailer has a bath and a grooming table and everything, so I can do everything a salon can do. I looked in the grooming school which was a four-month course. I went and got my certification for that. I love grooming."

She says the response has been nothing short of remarkable since her startup. She states, "For my first year I was amazed how steady it was and how busy I got. The pet industry is huge. It's been awesome and I love it."

Koffing shares the honour with Muenster Powder Coating, with the award being accepted by employee Scott Davis. Jan Sylvestre, who operates the business with her husband Dan, was delighted by the award. Jan Sylvester says, "It's great; it's a big honour. My husband Dan came home to show us the award and we were all tickled." Muenster Powder Coating was born out of a need to support local customers. The Sylvestres had worked in the manufacturing sector previously, and Dan had knowledge of powder coating processes.

Jan recalls, "We saw a lot of business travelling by Humboldt to go to Saskatoon and recognized the need for the service locally." The company uses a refined process of coating metals with plastic particulate and heating the product to produce an attractive long-lasting finish.

Both success stories are the result of doing a business needs 360-degree look and then responding with excellence to their clients' needs.
