Do you have a friend or neighbour who goes above and beyond?

The City of Humboldt has launched a new program this winter where residents can nominate another person for recognition for pitching in with tasks including yard work, lawn care, moving garbage carts, and winter's biggest chore - snow removal.

Community Development Coordinator Colby McClelland says that in the past the city has run a similar program.

"Residents would nominate others who helped them with snow removal and the city would give them a letter of recognition from Mayor and Council. The nominees also had their name put in a draw for a prize."

The former program was entitled Snow Busters, covering simply that - snow removal.

The new program will see three different categories for nomination: Cart Buddies, Snow Buster, and Yard Companions.

"A resident can nominate a person in one or all of the categories depending on the service they provided for them," explained McClelland.

The Cart Buddies nomination is for helping your neighbour move their garbage and recycling carts to the curb on a weekly basis.

"Yard Companions is for anyone who helps another with yard work, lawn care, or gardening," McClelland noted.

A good Snow Buster nominee gets out the shovels or snow blower to help clear out walkways and driveways.

McClelland says nomination forms can be dropped off at City Hall.
