If you are a business or farm owner looking for help in the transition period, the City of Humboldt is lending a hand.

They have partnered up with SuccessionMatching.com - an organization that assists owners looking to step into the post-business life.

"We will be working with business owners and farm owners in the region on their succession plan over the next three years," said Alison Anderson, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Succession Matching.

Starting Thursday and running until December 7, there will be 15 different topics for owners to access.

Alison Anderson, CEO, Succession Matching.Anderson noted a few examples of information that will be available.

"The first one is an overview on what needs to go into a business plan for your succession. We have one on HR requirements before, during and after the transition," she said. "There is some legal advice, or we have a chartered business evaluator coming on."

Other topics that will be covered can be located here.

Anderson says that it is an excellent, free learning tool.

"I encourage people to sign up for the series because it is free of charge. Anywhere else in Canada you would be $700 to access this series."

According to the Canadian Federation of Independent Business, 70% of business owners are interested in retiring, but only 9% have succession plans in place.

Anderson says that the webinars aren't just for people who are thinking of retiring in the next two or three years.

"A lot of people have questions and it kind of becomes overwhelming. They don't know where to start. In Canada, the average transition is between two and seven years," she said. "Even if people are ten years out of their transition plan, we encourage them to sign up so they know what they path to transition is."

The first webinar is available at 10:00am on Thursday. You can sign up or find more information by visiting the city's website.
